What is a Test-Tube Baby?
A test-tube baby refers to a child that is created using scientific methods that involve combining eggs with sperm outside of the woman’s body. Essentially, the process involves monitoring and stimulating a woman’s ovulatory cycle in order to retrieve an egg that can then be combined with sperm in a laboratory dish. The process is known as In Vitro Fertilization or IVF treatment. A woman can also undergo IVF treatment when she suffers from blocked fallopian tubes, severe endometriosis or other problems that prevent her from conceiving naturally.시험관아기비용
Although the term “test-tube baby” became widely used after the birth of Louise Brown in 1978, scientists had actually been working on in vitro fertilization (IVF) for over a decade before that. The term, however, caught on with the public after it was portrayed in the media as a major medical breakthrough. The reaction of the media, both mainstream and tabloid, was indicative of the mixed feelings that surrounded the concept of a test-tube baby at the time.
The first IVF experiment was carried out in 1973 by Dr. John Del-Zio at Columbia-Presbyterian in New York City. He retrieved an egg from Doris and sperm from her husband, and placed them together in a vial. He then put the vial in an incubator in hopes that fertilization would occur. Unfortunately, the vial was taken out of the incubator too soon, and the fertilization failed. This early failure to create a test-tube baby set back IVF research considerably.
Despite the early failure of IVF research, many couples still hoped to conceive their children using this method. Eventually, IVF became available in clinics around the country. Known as assisted reproductive technology, IVF has given hope to millions of infertile couples who otherwise could not conceive a child naturally. The term in vitro means “within a glass” and is an alternative to the more common term of assisted reproduction.
Louise Brown was the world’s first test-tube baby. Her mother, Lesley, had suffered from infertility due to blocked fallopian tubes. In 1977, she underwent the experimental IVF procedure. A mature egg was removed from her ovary and combined with her husband’s sperm in a laboratory dish. An embryo was then implanted in her uterus a few days later.
IVF is the most successful form of assisted reproductive technology. Since the birth of the first test-tube baby, tens of thousands of American children have been conceived using this technique. Using IVF, women with a wide variety of fertility problems can now have healthy children of their own. In addition, IVF has helped couples who were previously unable to conceive a biological child, such as homosexuals and heterosexuals. For these reasons, IVF has become an essential component of modern medicine. IVF treatments are expensive, though, and can be complicated to carry out correctly. It is best to discuss your options with a doctor before you begin the process. He or she can provide you with a complete breakdown of the cost of IVF treatment, including any medications that may be included in the overall treatment cost.서울아이앤여성의원
