Apple Pay Terminal and NFC-Enabled Terminals
Apple Pay Terminal is a new feature available on iPhone that enables small businesses to accept contactless cards and digital wallets with a simple tap. This new functionality will empower millions of merchants across the US to accept Apple Pay, contactless credit and debit cards, and other digital wallets without requiring a dedicated card reader or payment terminal.
NFC-Enabled Terminals
NFC-Enabled Terminals enable shoppers to pay using their smartphones, iPhones and Apple Watch. These terminals are available at most retailers and are a cost-effective option for small to midsized businesses that want to offer their customers a more secure and convenient way to pay.
Shoppers use their NFC-enabled mobile phones or watches to link credit and debit cards to their mobile wallet app. They then tap their card or mobile phone near an NFC-enabled payment terminal to complete the transaction.
These terminals can also be used to present contactless passes, such as loyalty cards, gift cards or boarding passes. They use the Apple Value Added Services (VAS) protocol to transmit data from supported passes to compatible NFC terminals.
Like EMV chips, NFC payments must be verified by a merchant’s system before they can be processed. This validation process prevents hackers from remotely triggering fraudulent transactions and reduces the risk of fraud.
Tap-to-Pay
Tap-to-Pay is a feature that lets customers pay for goods or services with their phone, mobile wallet or wearable devices. The technology uses Near Field Communication (NFC) to connect to a payment terminal, and is safer than swipe or insertion of a credit card.
It also requires no additional hardware or terminals. Apple says this is a good way to reduce costs for small businesses.
This is especially helpful for mobile professionals like contractors and caterers, as well as for retailers. They can use their iPhone to take payments onsite at job sites or during events, and avoid having to bring along a traditional card reader or a cash register.
Apple’s solution, which will be available in an upcoming iOS software beta, is compatible with all contactless credit and debit cards, as well as smartphones’ digital wallets such as Apple Pay on an iPhone or Apple Watch. It does not store the customer’s credit or debit card details on the device or Apple servers, and is approved by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and others. 애플페이단말기
